Another cold…

My children are such givers…they have shared yet another cold with me. Oh yay…. I should have known this was coming. On Sunday I felt off…a little dizzy and had a bad headache. Yesterday I felt crummy in the morning, but as the day went on, I felt better. As I cleaned up the kitchen after dinner, though, my throat began to tickle. Today I woke up with a sore throat and a stuffy nose. I know that the next few days will be a blur of sinus congestion, chest congestion, and rough sleep. Bleh. (I will likely bow to the pressure and take some OTC cold meds…)

Cole is wrapping this bad boy up. He’s had his for about 10 days. He’s just about done…unless he’s soliciting some pity. Then he’s able to muster up a little cough. He is in preschool, which as we all know, is just another word for virus breeding ground.

Tate has been sneezing and blowing through tissues for 2 days. Today his cold seems a bit better. The cold definitely explains some of his behaviors from last week.

Jake has a sore throat and a runny nose. He gets colds like Hubz does…he is bothered for a few days and then is relatively fine. I hope he doesn’t get any worse.

I really hope we are all on the upswing in time for Spring Break. We have a week and a half. I don’t want to be shuffling kids to doctor’s appointments when we should be enjoying some time away from school. Here’s to hoping!!

Wellness, Shmellness

“The crud” has been with us since Thanksgiving. My nephew started with a fever and stuffy nose. Then my niece went down. Jake, who shared a room with them, was next. He happily shared it with Cole.

Cole, being a toddler and all, had no qualms about rubbing his boogery nose on me, his brother, Hubz’s head (a downside to baldness), and anything else that couldn’t move fast enough. Tate got it after that. Oh, God, did Tate get it….(insert contorted face of doom here).

When Tate gets “the crud”, it lingers…and his nose produces mass amounts of yuck. Epic amounts. This being said, Tate does get the concept of blowing his nose. However, Tate sometimes forgets that his nose should be blown into a tissue. I won’t regal disgust you with gory details, but suffice it to say that his shirts and bedding are considered biohazards during cold and flu season.

Along with “the crud” comes sleep disturbance. For those who catch it, ahem, Tate, and for those of us who are in charge of the clean up and comforting. Apparently in the job description for a parent, one must endure mid-night wakings, during which one will be coughed on, spit up upon, and used as a tissue. It’s in there. Trust me.

A bi-product of this um, perk(?) is that you, too, will catch “the crud”. I tried to avoid it. I really did. My hands are cracked and bleeding from the numerous handwashes. I drank gallons of Airborne. I took vitamin C. I tried to will the germs away with my Jedi mind powers. I caused asthmatic reactions with all of the Lysol I sprayed in the house.

And it was all for naught. My sleep-deprived body cried uncle. It gave up. I am battling a low-grade fever, chills, stuffy, runny nose, headache, sinus pressure, and all-around crumminess. The thing is, I.don’t.have.time.to.be.sick.Period.

I have to finish buying gifts for Christmas. I have to plan for vacation. I have to make lists for vacation, packing, Christmas for my fam, Christmas for Hubz’s fam, and for school stuff. I have Bunco to play tomorrow. I have cookies to bake for said Bunco night. (Whose idea was it for a cookie exchange?!) And I don’t feel like doing any of it. I just want to lay down and sleep.

But I can’t. We’ll see…I’m going to make a nice cup of tea, put my feet up, and hope for the best. “The crud” has 10 days to leave. I refuse to bring it with me on vacation. Refuse.

Wish me luck……I’ll need it.
