In roughly an hour and a half, both of my older boys will be on Spring Break. As if on cue, the weather got rainy and gloomy. Can’t complain, though, seeing as we had 8 straight days of record temps and sunshine…
This morning’s meeting went well. Tate is doing much better at school. Academically he is hanging in there, not too far off from peers. He does best when he is with a limited number of peers. Otherwise he tells his peers to “shoo”.
We all agreed that he should remain in “instructional” first grade. The hope is to mainstream him more as the year progresses, at least into a few of the classes. Like this year, he will be mainstreamed for specials….gym, library, art & music. The upside is that as of today, it looks like his class will be located at our home school. Both kids at the same school! No special bussing! Proximity to our house! I am trying to not get my hopes up…but at the same time, I am. Fingers (and toes) are crossed!
In addition to this, I was able to schedule Jake’s neuropsych eval yesterday. Insurance is going to cover 90% of the cost of the eval!! We got him on the calendar for July 24 and 26. They will let us know if we can get in sooner, but I doubt it. The office will send rating scales to be filled out, blah, blah, blah…not our first trip to the show…we know the routine.
I am relieved…I really want a clearer picture of Jake’s issues…ADHD, processing delays, sensory processing disorder, learning disability, auditory processing disorder…etc, etc…
We are staying home for break. I am looking forward to laid back mornings with coffee, pj’s and the kids. (Of course there will be wrestling, bickering, and bargaining over tv and video games, but it will be a nice break from our usual routine.)
Tate will get used to our schedule, just in time to go back to school. *sigh* He will still have ABA, PT & speech, so he isn’t going to be completely off kilter…and yet..
Oh, and we are going to run an experiment…we are going to let Jake and Tate share a room…for the week. Tate seems to want to have someone with him when he settles into bed…so, Jake agreed to try it out. If it works, we may try it again over the summer…and if that continues to work, we just may let them share a room….
So, that’s it in a nutshell…I’ll try to steal a little time to write next week, but we’ll see if my little men will go along with my plan…
